How to deal with the problem that knitwear get out of shape?

Knitwear has the advantages of versatility, close-fitting comfort, good wrinkle resistance and air permeability, which is popular to consumers. As a kind of mature fabric, knitwear owns various strength absolutely though, it also has an obvious shortage: easy to get out of shape. Using TPU elastic tape can help to avoid the problem. Some knitwear of top brands will be sewn TPU tape on the neckline, shoulder seam, armhole, cuff, side seam and hem before leaving factory. The little clear elastic TPU tape will prevent knitwear from getting out of shape, so as to lengthen its service life. However, considering the cost, it isn’t possible to add TPU tape on knitwear for each manufacturer. So what should I do if I buy a knitwear that has not been sewn with TPU elastic tape? How to restore the deformed knitwear due to dressing habits, drying or improper washing? How should the knitwear be washed and dried to avoid getting out of shape?

1. How to avoid knitwear be out of shape?

Just as what we explained above, adding clear TPU elastic tape is a common method to solve the problem that knitwear be out of shape. If we bought a knitwear with no TPU tape, we can sew TPU tape by ourselves. Why choose TPU tape? Because TPU elastic tape is thin, soft and invisible. If you didn’t find TPU tape, choosing elastic tape in other material can also get the similar effect. But the comfort will be less.

2. How to restore the deformed knitwear?

Knitwear is easy to get out of shape due to dressing habits, drying or improper washing. How to restore them? When dressing, the sleeves of knitwear is often pulled to the wrist, which will easily cause the cuffs of knitted sweaters to become loose and lose the original sense of neatness when wearing. The loose cuffs tend to give people a sloppy impression, greatly reducing your dressing taste. Try the following recovery methods:

(1) Use hot water. Soak the cuffs that have lost their elasticity in hot water of around 40-50 degrees. Then take them out 1-2 hours later and dry them slightly with a towel. Next, cover it with a towel and lightly iron it with a steam iron. After drying, the problem of loose cuffs of the knitted sweater will be improved.

(2) Use the steaming method to restore the clothes as a whole. Put the clothes in the steamer. However, it should be noted that if the rice cooker waits for 2 minutes after being aired, while the pressure cooker waits for half a minute after being aired, and there is no valve.

(3) Cut the clothes. Use this method only if there is no effect after using hot water or steaming. This method is difficult to operate and is not recommended to be used casually.

(4) Sewing TPU elastic tape. When knitwear is restored through hot water or steam method, it is recommended to sew TPU elastic tape on the neckline, shoulder seams, armholes, cuffs, side seams and hem. Shape knitted sweaters to prevent it get out of shape again.

3. How should the knitwear be washed and dried to avoid getting out of shape?

(1) Before washing, pat off the dust on the knitted sweater first. Then soak it in cold water for 10-20 minutes. Then take it out and squeeze out the water. Next, add washing powder solution or soap flake solution to clothes and scrub gently. Finally rinse with clean water and add a little vinegar, which can not only neutralize the residual soap base, but also effectively maintain the elasticity and luster of the knitted sweater.

(2) Use tea to wash knitted sweaters. Of course, avoid use tea to wash the white clothes. Put a pot of boiling water and put an appropriate amount of tea leaves. After the tea leaves are soaked in water and cool, filter out the tea leaves. Then soak the sweater in the tea water for 15 minutes. Then rub it gently several times and rinse it with clean water.so that the wool does not fade and prolongs the service life.

(3) White knitted sweaters that have been worn for a long time will gradually turn gray. After washing the knitted sweater, freeze it in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Then take it out to dry, and it will be as white as new. If the dark sweater is stained with dust, use the dampened sponge to wipe it gently.

(4) After washing, do not hang, twist or expose to the sun. We should squeeze out the water and shake it to be loose, then put it in a sweater drying rack and hang it in a ventilated place to dry. In conclusion, do not wash and treat the knitwear violently.
