Difference between TPU tape and traditional elastics

TPU tape and traditional elastic tape are two common types of materials used in garment accessories, representing two eras of modern and traditional craftsmanship. Although their ultimate goal is to enhance the fit and comfort of clothing, they have significant differences in terms of material, production process, environmental protection, and service life.

1. Material

Traditional elastic tape is usually made of cotton, polyester, or other fibrous materials. Though traditional elastics are woven tapes, most of them contain rubber. Rubber is one elastic plastic material. In contrast, TPU tape is made of thermoplastic polyurethane material, which inherently has good elasticity.

2. Environmental friendliness

Environmental friendliness is a significant advantage of TPU elastic tape. Traditional elastic tape can produce some wastewater and exhaust gases during the production process, while TPU elastic tape basically do not have these problems. In addition, TPU elastic tape is made of TPU raw material only, which means that the only composition of TPU tape is TPU material. As we know TPU material can be recycled and does no harm to the environment and human beings, so TPU tape can be recycled and reused. but traditional elastic tape is difficult to recycle. Because there are several kinds of composition in a piece of traditional elastic tape. To separate those elements is a difficult thing.

3. Service life

The service life of TPU elastic tape is generally longer than that of traditional elastic tape. This is because TPU material inherently has good wear resistance and aging resistance and is not easily affected by external environmental factors. In contrast, traditional elastic tape is easily affected by humidity, temperature, and other factors, leading to weakened elasticity or breakage.

5. Application fields

The application fields of TPU elastic tape are broader compared to traditional elastic tape. In addition to traditional garment accessories, TPU elastic tape can also be used in medical equipment, sports equipment, automotive interiors, and other fields, with more diverse functions and uses.

6. Price

Due to the higher cost of TPU material, the price of TPU elastic tape is generally higher than that of traditional elastic tape. However, considering the environmental friendliness, durability, and wide range of applications of TPU elastic tape, their cost-effectiveness is relatively high.

TPU elastic tape and traditional elastic tape each have their advantages and disadvantages. However, in the long run, TPU elastic tape, with its excellent performance and environmental friendliness, is supposed to make more contribution to people’s better life.
